With the recent news coverage that the long-term use of chemical cleaning agents can have a significant effect on your health, compounded by the huge amounts of waste plastic bottles in our oceans and landfill, going green is the sustainable way for the world to clean.

Now there’s a new eco technology that helps save the planet one plastic bottle and chemical cleaner at a time!

To find out how please watch this video.

Read on to find out how to clean chemically free…

Clean green with Toucan Eco bio-cleaning system

Toucan Eco only requires tap water, salt and a low voltage electrical current to make an antibacterial multi-surface cleaner that kills more than 99.999% of bacteria. That’s why it stops you using over 80% of chemical cleaners and the single-use #wasteplastic bottles they come in.

It’s 100% safe and non-toxic and hypoallergenic to humans or animals. Stringent tests have also been undertaken by EU accredited independent laboratories and university research departments.

“The solutions generated by the Toucan units have been proven to destroy microorganisms very quickly and comprehensively – using only water and salt,” explains Professor Darren Reynolds of the Department of Biological, Biomedical and Analytical Sciences at UWE, who was recently interviewed on BBC’s War on Plastic with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall.

“They are highly effective against bacteria, viruses, spores and fungi, providing protection to water, surfaces, fabrics, foodstuffs and people.”

Tests have also shown that the solution kills more than 99.999% of microorganisms, including pathogens.

Different Toucan Eco models are available to suit any application – from domestic and small businesses to industrial – and because you make it yourself, you’ll never run out. It only costs as much as the water and salt. And it only uses about a 10th of the amount of electricity a kettle does.

Where it’s used

Think of it as a multi-purpose disinfectant and cleaner suitable. Simply make, spray, wipe or mop.

The solution will disinfect all hard surfaces and fabrics, killing 99.999% of bacteria. And with a gentle pH of between 7.8 to 8.5 it’s a non-aggressive cleaner too, leaving a smear-free finish on glossy surfaces without any chemical residue. It also cleans and removes stains from fabrics such as carpets, chairs and curtains.

And it’s ideal for use in kitchens and restaurants as it doesn’t have a strong odour or taste. In fact, it’s also a natural deodoriser, reducing odours in kitchens, washrooms and on fabrics by killing the bacteria that are the principal cause.

But just be aware while it is kind for the environment it doesn’t replace limescale removers or strong degreasers.

Here's the science bit!

The principles of electrolysis have been around since 1834, but it wasn’t until the 1970s when a Russian scientist called Professor Vitold Bakhir added salt to this process to create a brand-new solution – one that was found to have powerful disinfectant properties.

When a small electric current is applied to a salt and water solution, the hydrogen and oxygen in the water react with the chloride in the salt to produce hypochlorous acid, and with the sodium to produce sodium hypochlorite. This process is known as electrochemical activation, and that’s how the clever Toucan Eco devices can make endless, safe and effective multipurpose disinfectant cleaner.

Hypochlorous acid and sodium hypochlorite both are powerful and safe disinfectants. In fact, when the body comes under attack from invading bacteria and viruses, the immune system responds by sending white blood cells, which produces the very same hypochlorous acid to fight the infection. So, this technology is inspired by our very own immune system, creating the same, naturally occurring and safe solution, but in a more concentrated form.

Bringing the solution to the cleaning world

The technology started to be used as a chemical-free cleaner and disinfectant in industrial applications in the 1970s and remained one of cleaning’s best-kept secrets until recent times. With developments in technology, and the demand for more environmentally-friendly cleaning systems, new smaller devices have been designed that allow the solution to be made easily on demand in facilities.

This technology is trusted by a huge range of industries around the world. It protects the marine environment, disinfects drinking water, combats Legionella, and is used to safely disinfect and clean in everything from fish processing to carpet cleaning, salad packing to flower cultivation and dairy farming.

The applications are endless. And it’s now being used by the cleaning industry in restaurants, schools, nurseries, universities, government buildings and has even been enlisted to fight the war against bacteria for the British Army. It is used to clean workplaces such as Geneva and Copenhagen airports, NHS Blood & Transplant Service, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Volvo’s commercial haulage vehicles and more.

Independently tried and tested

The activated solution is certified safe as a general disinfectant and also safe in food preparation areas. It’s also certified as effective for use in risk areas. Toucan Eco is listed under Article 95 of the EU Biocides regulations. It’s safe and hypoallergic so there’s less risk to health, less plastic bottles thrown away, less health and safety training with no COSHH implications and costs less over time.

On top of that, there’s no servicing or reordering and it will contribute towards reducing your business’ carbon footprint.

Yes, it is possible!

To summarise, chemical-free cleaning is now a real possibility for the workplace. Toucan Eco bio-cleaning is a cost-effective and environmentally-friendly disinfectant and cleaning solution, which drastically reduces plastic waste by removing the need for over 80% chemical agents.

As a chemical alternative, it’s not only fast-acting and economical, it is also non-harmful with a pH of between 7.8 and 8.5. It’s ideal for multi-surface application and works extremely well with microfibre and can be used to wipe, rinse, spray and mop.
