Toucan Eco: The sustainable way to clean without toxic chemicals and single-use plastic

More and more FM, cleaning contractors and in-house maintenance teams are being tasked with introducing sustainable cleaning practices to reduce their organisation’s carbon footprint. This includes initiatives such as energy reduction, plastic-free and recycling schemes.

To support these drives, Toucan Eco is a bio-cleaning system that helps reduce chemical and plastic bottle use by well over 80%.

Toucan Eco uses just three components to create an environmentally-friendly sanitiser; water, salt and electricity – that’s it. Salt is dissolved in water and electrochemically activated by applying a small electrical current using a specialised electrolysis cell.

This produces hypochlorous acid and low concentration of sodium hypochlorite, an effective disinfectant, which combined with a gentle increase in pH, acts as a cleaner.

Key features of Toucan Eco

The solution made onsite is safe, non-toxic, non-allergenic and environmentally friendly, and significantly reduces plastic waste while saving money. The ROI averages at around 12 months, after which point the solution is virtually free to make.

Stringent tests undertaken at the University of West England have shown that Toucan Eco is 99.999% effective against all forms of microorganisms with very fast contact time and virtually no regrowth, making it the ideal, eco-friendly alternative to harsh chemicals.

Early adopters of Toucan Eco include the likes of Somerset House of London, where the system is saving £3,000 and 1,800 plastic bottles a year, proving that there is an alternative to synthetic chemicals to disinfect and clean while reducing the use of single-use plastic bottles.

In order to provide a solution for users, no matter how big or small, we are introducing two new models that will be officially launched at the upcoming Manchester Cleaning Show – Toucan Eco Active Plus and Toucan Eco Flow.

Toucan Eco Active Plus

The Toucan Eco Active Plus offers a solution for medium to large facilities. With twice the capacity of the Toucan Eco Active, it produces 20 litres of multipurpose sanitiser in one activation, which takes only 40 minutes. This is then poured into bottles and buckets using the dilution dispensers.

Toucan Eco Flow

The top of the range Toucan Eco Flow model supplies an on-demand sanitising solution that’s practically on-tap, making the Toucan Eco Flow is ideal for large buildings, facilities and production plants.

With this new model, the solution is made automatically, and the only thing the end-user needs to do is periodically fill-up the brine tank with salt – the touch screen on the device lets you know when this is needed. Again, the solution diluted dispensed into bottles and buckets.

Toucan Eco 3and Active

The range also includes the smaller Toucan Eco 3, which makes a litre in five minutes and is ideal to trial the technology and clean small businesses and the home. And there’s the Toucan Eco Active, which is designed for medium-sized cleaning areas and makes 10 litres in around 20 minutes. All models are virtually maintenance-free and can be self-installed.

Toucan Eco is great for busy environments which demand a quick, effective cleaning regime, but especially where green credentials are important or harsh cleaning products aren’t suitable. However, as it’s becoming increasingly important to reduce our carbon footprint, this technology is now becoming mainstream.
